Fashion Week: What I Expected vs. What I Got

I expected Fashion Week to be a glamorous display of the latest trends. Instead, I got a hectic and tiring week of shows and events.

Introduction

Fashion week is one of the most highly anticipated events on the fashion calendar. Attendees often have high expectations of the week, but it doesn’t always meet those expectations. Here’s a look at what I expected from fashion week, and what I actually got.

What is fashion week?

Fashion week is a time where the who’s who of the fashion industry come together to share their latest designs and collections. I expected fashion week to be this grandiose event, but it was really just a lot of people standing around in uncomfortable clothing.

The different types of fashion weeks

Fashion week is an event that occurs twice a year where fashion designers, press, and buyers come together to showcase and preview the designer’s upcoming line. Fashion weeks are usually four to five days long, and they occur in February and September. There are three types of fashion weeks: ready-to-wear, haute couture, and resort.

Ready-to-wear fashion weeks occur twice a year, once in February and once in September. These fashion weeks showcase the designer’s upcoming Ready-to-wear (RTW) collection. RTW collections are mass-produced clothing items that are ready to be worn immediately off the runway.

Haute couture fashion weeks only occur once a year in Paris and they showcase the designer’s high-end, one-of-a-kind clothing items. Couture garments are not mass produced like RTW clothing; instead, they are made to order for each individual customer.

Resort fashion weeks occur once a year between December and May. These fashion weeks mainly showcase Resort collections, which are clothing items that are meant to be worn on vacation or at resort destinations. However, some designers also use this time to preview their RTW collections for the following season.

So what can you expect if you attend a fashion week? A lot of shows! During fashion week, there are dozens of shows happening all over the city every day. Some shows are invite only, but many designers also open up their shows to the public. If you want to attend a show, you can usually get tickets by reaching out to the designer or PR team directly or by signing up for a Fashion Week pass.

In addition to all of the shows, there are also tons of after parties and events that occur during Fashion Week. If you’re lucky enough to score an invite, these can be a great opportunity to rub elbows with some of the biggest names in fashion!

What I expected

Fashion week is a very glamorous event. It is full of beautiful people, amazing clothes, and incredible parties. I expected to see a lot of skinny models and to feel really out of place because I am not skinny. I expected to see a lot of people who were really into fashion and to feel like I didn’t belong because I am not into fashion. And, I expected to be really bored because I don’t care about clothes.

What I got

I expected fashion week to be a glamorous event where I would see the latest and greatest designs from all over the world. I was surprised to find that it was quite different from what I had anticipated. While there were certainly some beautiful designs on display, the event itself was much more chaotic than I had expected. There were people everywhere, and it was very loud. I didn’t get to see as many shows as I had hoped, but overall it was a fun experience.

The good

Fashion week is a dangerous time. You can get caught up in the whirlwind of trends and shows and parties and forget that, at the end of the day, fashion is about having fun and expressing your own unique style. I went into fashion week expecting to be inspired by the latest collections, but I left feeling more excited about my own wardrobe than ever before. Here are the highlights of my experience.

The bad

Before I went to fashion week, I had this idealsistic vision in my head of what it would be like. I would be sitting in the front row at shows, wearing the latest designer clothes and mingling with the who’s who of the fashion industry.
But what I got was a very different reality. Most of the shows I went to were not well known designers, and the majority of people there were either interns or other fashion students. As for the clothes, I saw a lot of interesting streetwear but nothing that I would consider high fashion.

So while my experience didn’t quite match up with my expectations, it was still a fun and informative week. And who knows, maybe next year I’ll get to sit in the front row after all.

The ugly

Of course, there are always going to be some hits and misses when it comes to fashion. But this season, there were more misses than usual. designers seemed to be trying too hard to be different, and as a result, created some truly ugly garments. From strange proportions to tacky materials, here are some of the biggest fashion fails from this season’s fashion week.

The takeaway

Fashion week is always a whirlwind, and this season was no different. I expected to see a lot of new designers, innovative designs, and creative people. And while I did see all of those things, I also got so much more. I got to see old friends, meet new ones, and be a part of something truly magical.

I expected fashion week to be all about the clothes, but it was so much more than that. It was about the people and the energy in the room. It was about feeling inspired and creative. And most of all, it was about having fun.

So what’s the takeaway? The next time you’re feeling stressed or down, remember that fashion week is just around the corner. And it will be everything you need it to be.

Conclusion

Fashion Week was an amazing experience. I expected it to be glamorous and exciting, and it was both of those things. But it was also exhausting and stressful. I’m so glad I went, but next time I’ll be better prepared.

I expected to see a lot of amazing clothes, and I did. But I also saw a lot of outfits that were just okay, and a few that were downright bad. It was interesting to see how the different designers interpreted the same trends in their own unique ways.

I expected to be surrounded by beautiful people, and while there were definitely a lot of people who fit that description, there were also plenty of regular people like me. It was nice to see that fashion is for everyone, regardless of what you look like.

All in all, Fashion Week was a great experience. I’m already looking forward to next year!
